Musical Director: MJ Paranzino

South London Choir is a part of MJ’s Choirs, a network of four friendly, non-auditioning and all-embracing community choirs welcoming singers of all abilities.
Led by the dynamic American composer and entertainer MJ Paranzino, the choirs sing everything from Mozart to ABBA, gospel to swing, musicals to new contemporary songs and more!
Musical Director: Simon Arnott

On a crisp August morning in 2015, a small group of friends gathered in a beer garden and founded a chorus — with the dream of sharing the music they loved with the world.

A decade on and now fifty strong, Meantime Chorus continues its mission to share the joy of a cappella and barbershop music with our audiences. We’ve performed for people all over the country, including in Brighton, Leeds, Harrogate, Manchester, Bournemouth and our home in London.
By pushing our musical boundaries, we’ve won national competitions and established ourselves as a prominent chorus in the vocal ensemble scene.
After becoming Barbershop National Champions in 2022, we were invited to the Barbershop Harmony Society International Chorus Contest where we finished 11th in the world, breaking all British records.

Simon Arnott is a Conductor, Composer and Music Educator from South London. As one of the founders, he has led the musical direction of the chorus since 2015.
An accomplished composer and arranger, Simon has arranged many pieces in Meantime’s repertoire, including the award-winning Trip a Little Light Fantastic. He also lends his expertise to ensembles around the world with custom arrangements.
Outside Meantime, Simon performs with the quartet Trailblazers (National Quartet Champions 2022) and directs London City Singers.

Many of our singers have reached an age where we need help caring for our parents. This is not just about the physical areas of their lives but their emotional lives as well. One of our singers recently lost their parent to a life limiting illness and Music Therapy played an important
part in caring for them. She said...

"We are all very aware of how important music is in our lives. Music therapy can help so many people living with dementia, loneliness, mental health problems, learning difficulties and physical disabilities. My Dad, who spent the last 10 years of his life living alone and dealing with his own declining health, found great company, comfort and stimulation from attending music therapy group sessions run by a charity where he lived. During lockdown when the sessions couldn't happen, the music therapists would call my Dad weekly and not only provide a friendly ear to someone living alone at a frightening time, but would prompt discussions about happy memories and the music that accompanied them, and set him music challenges to do at home to keep his brain ticking and give him a sense of purpose. "

This year Tongue & Groove has chosen to support Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy as its charity with the goal of raising £1000 by Christmas. Please buy something from the interval cake stall, pop some coins (preferably the folding kind) into our collection buckets at the end of the performance or donate to our fundraising page on the link below.

Thank you.

Nordoff Robbins is the UK’s largest music therapy charity, with a unique approach shaped by more than 60 years of practice.

By harnessing the power of music, we help break through the barriers caused by life-limiting illness, disability and social isolation.

Our work can be transformative, from an adult with dementia reconnecting with family to a child with autism finding their voice.
